Vera Drake

Vera Drake: Imelda Staunton stars in this very deep and power film dealing with abortions in England in 1950. Staunton plays an excellent role as Vera Drake a wife and mother who cares so much for her family, at the same time she is administrating abortions to young girls. Vera sees what she is doing as helping someone who has no one to turn to. The movie works its way in so that the viewer sees both sides of the argument and is what makes the movie so compelling. I would only recommend this movie if you are in the mood for a deep drama.

  1. The family is close-knit and very supporting and when Ethel announces that she is engaged to neighbor Reg , it seems as if their happiness is boundless.
