Hidalgo

Hidalgo: Loosely based on true events in the 1890’s, this film tells the story of a great horse race across the deserts of Arabia. Viggo Mortensen plays Frank Hopkins who enters the race. What we have here is a simple story that the screenwriters tried to make deeper and with more angles to it, did not work for me. I also feel that they failed to make Hidalgo (the horse) into a character that we cared about….they tried, but again I did not think it worked. What did work was the race, from sand storms to swarm of bugs – we had the feeling of an adventure in a foreign land, that was what kept me watching.
